Abstract
Bu metin, sosyolojide önemli iki ana geleneği temsil eden ve uzun bir tarihî geçmişe sahip olan, varlığını ve etkilerini de günümüzde halen sürdüren pozitivist ve anlayıcı paradigmaları birleştirme yönündeki öne çıkan çağdaş sosyologlardan A. Giddens'ı konu edinmektedir. Bu bağlamda makalemizde, hem modern toplumları analiz etmeye vasıta olacak bir yöntem kurgulamaya ve hem de genel sosyal teorinin doğasını sorgulayacak temelleri ortaya koymaya çalışan Giddens'ın, çağımızdaki modern sanayi toplumlarının doğası ve gelişimini ve ortaya çıkan kapsamlı değişimleri anlamayı sağlamak amacıyla geliştirdiği yeni sosyal teorisi ve özellikle de “çifte- hermeneutik” esasına dayalı, “açıklayıcı yorumsamacılık” olarak adlandırabileceğimiz metodolojisi üzerinde durulacaktır.

An Assessment on Anthony Giddens's Social Theory and His M ethodology. This text will examine A. Giddens who is among the contemporary sociologists come into prominence in joining positivist and comprehensive paradigms which represent two main traditions in sociology, have a long historical background, and continue their existence and influence today. In this context, in our essay, we will discuss Giddens's new social theory - who tried to both construct a method that will be a means to analyze modern societies, and define the bases which will question the nature of general social theory- which he developed for the purpose of making understand the nature and development of modern industrial societies and wide changes that have come out, and especially his methodology that we can call as “interpretive hermeneutic “ based on “double hermeneutic
